ka24de swap

Okay,

so i'm buying a 95 ka24de to put in my 89 240sx.. I know i have to use a different throttle cable, distributor, coil, ps lines, and such... but do I have to change anything on the engine itself? some people said they changed the intake manifold, and exhaust manifold... what is right?

i'm weary but I2aine will either kill me or praise but here we go... i think the 94' production year set out as the 95 model was OBDI and the actual 95'-98' were OBDII

but dont take my word on it...

I think the 10/94 manufacturered date is the cutoff for OBD I (check the sticker, doorjam, drivers side) but I'm not 100% sure either

just so u know, u can use ur throttle cable and ur power steering lines from ur 89. To use ur power steering lines all u have to do is unclip ur high pressure line from lower brace( plastic clips hold it on) and just bend it up towards ur dohc power steering pump and whoa la!!! ( now when i say bend it, dont be afraid. Its a soft line that ur bending not a hard line)

now the throttle cable on the sohc is just shorter than the dohc cable. If u dont mind the cable running across the top of the valve cover, the sohc cable works fine. The dual cam cable will run behind the valve cover. So its all in what looks nicer. I just used my single cam one cuz i could care less how it looks

can I use the MAF from my sohc on the dohc engine? or does it need more airflow, or what?

IIRC we used the same KA24E MAFS when we swapped a DE into our friend's 89

Yeah that kinda sucks, if you would of used the 91-94 KA24de engine you could of used the 89-90 ecu, with the 89-90 distributor, with an eprom chip only for the 89-90 ecu you could of removed the rev limit governor. You could of reused all of the smog equipment from your 89-90 KA24e. There is an additional knock sensor for the 95-98 KA24de's and OBD2 technology is a biotch to work with, "too many wires in the ecu harness"

Yeah, it would have been an obd I engine anyways... but it was automatic, so I didn't get it. I would really like to get one from a 91-94, so if anyone knows of one for sale around the pacific northwest... anywhere in washington, idaho, or oregon would be nice...

http://www.zilvia.net/faqs/archive/SOHCtoDOHC.asp

That link is to the faq I am using for a similar swap ('91 de into a '90 e... totaled my '91 ) I have heard from several people that it is correct and reliable. Use it my friend. use it for all it's worth.
