just curious
ok i've searched and it seems like everyone has a different opinion on the subject...the only thing wrong with that is most of the posts are over a year and a half old and those ppl aren't on the forum anymore.
with all the recent problems with my manual ka24e i'm thinking about just rebuilding my 91 ka24det automatic in my wrecked car and dropping it into my 89. now i want to retain the manual transmission do i need to find one from a ka24det or will my ka24e's fit and work out? if anyone has done this please let me know something. also with the rebuild and swap how much $ and down time can i expect to see? i don't want anything fancy maybe turbo it one day in the future but right now i would be happy with just around 200hp if that's even possible with just rebuilding. h3ll i would be happy with a car that ran pretty decent.

The trans should work fine from what i have read....
you are prob looking at about 2 weeks down time with a rebuild and swap i would guess on that. Heck if you still drive one while you rebuild you dont even have that much down time maybe a day or two while you swap and work out the bugs.
Cost.... the skys the limit but you can do it for under 500 i believe.... maybe less.
I believe that to get a little more compression and power you can use your pistons from you e and put them in your de. and i think you can use your e intake and mix it with the de intake to make that work...along with some sensor swap... i dont know wich one though.
I prob only confused you more but hey I tried....

ok sorry.. i will try to clear this up....
Trans shoudl work fine
to get more power on you rebuild of the DE motor use the pistons fron the E motor for higher compression.....
disregard what i said about the intake as i failed to notice you had a donor car. you can put the DE motor in your 89 as long as you swap the ECU and stuff.... and apparently the P/S line....

the 91 ka is turbo'd?
the tranny is interchangeable on all ka's
if you're gonna rebuild, rebuild the de instead of the e. once you do that, swap it right in. that way you can have a running car for the meantime. the swap should take no more than two days.
you're gonna need the ps reservoir/hoses/lines off the 91
the MAF off the 91 and the engine harness

the ka24de is not turbo'd. i was planning on rebuilding the de. i want to go ahead and possibly rebuild it for a turbo. that way when i do go turbo not so much work. i don't want the sr anymore since i have a perfictly good motor.

I found this post

I only know when you run higher compression pistons you cant run as much boost without more intercooling. you usually want a lower compression for more boost and a more efficient air charge.
I believe anyway.... I am sure i will be corrected if i am wrong though.
