I'll save you some time on the searches. They are absolutly 100%illeagal in Cali and most of the U.S. It wont pass smog and the inspectors will just stand and laugh. But search and you will get a definite answer.

Ugh, search please!!! I have covered this a million times. Its 100% ILLEGAL. Its illegal to swap it into a 240sx, and it wont pass smog. You can either not register the car at all and drive it like that(Very illegal) Or find yourself a crooked smogger and pay him extra to pass you. Again...search!

The RB series motors are legal ONLY IN A SKYLINE LEGALLY REGISTERED IN THE US. If it is not ina Skyline it is illegal.

geeeeez... since ur obviously not gonna look for the answer, i'll just tell u: YES! both are 168% 50 states legal! roll right up the smog station and let er rip!

if ur not willing to do something as simple as search for 10 seconds, u might as well get ur car impounded and/or crushed...

The legally motorex or RBMotoring imported Skylines are street legal, but not unles sit has gone through their process and stays in that car. That is the only way an RB motor will be legal, and only from 1990-1999 if I remember correctly.

Sometimes it really gets to me...Is it that hard to click that little button up top and type in what you are looking for?

jonpowell is, as usual, completely correct. and, as i posted here a few days ago, there are very few street legal swap options according to the EPA:

http://www.club240.com/forums/showth...&threadid=9434

in that thread is an excerpt and a link to the actual document that outlines what constitutes a legal motor swap. does this mean that people don't do it anyway? obviously not.

apparently so. maybe we should open a thread in the site feedback forums suggesting that we make the button f'n huge w/flashing lights around it. what i don't get is how we get played like ***** or something for making a fuss about it. i mean, damn. even our newer members are responding to threads like "u shoulda searched", so i know it isn't just me...

Well, the engines will pass the SNIFFER, but it won't pass the outright test if there is a VISUAL examination of the engine bay. I've passed RB20's and RB25's before through just the sniffer to see if they'd pass.....they did.
