daily driver swaps

from reading posts it seems that all the common swaps are good daily drivers. now one of my questions is, what happens if something goes wrong? if u need to take it to a mechanic can they help you at all? what if something breaks, you have to wait to get parts from some company here or maybe even japan? my concern is that i might get a swap, have it break, even if its just once or twice and be left without a car for a month or something. the parts im referring to are mostly simple things that could break on any car.

any help from any of the daily driven swappers would be appreciated.

it's very easy to know that swaps are daily drivers, after all they came from japan and over there, they daily drive em.
if you need a part, depending on what it is, you most likely gonna hafta order it from a company.

My car after the swap will be a daily driver. I will start on the swap next weekend. I have also planned on my car not working. So I have some money saved up in the bank. If I need to I can have a shop take care of the work and get it going or I can get a beater car. I will probably get a beater car before I take it to a mechanic.

Plan on the worse and hope for the best.

i understand they're good daily drivers, im not worried about it breaking frequently. just that if i hear some ticking in my engine or somethings funny, is it gonna take me forever to get it fixed because of the rareness of the engines?

Mine is not only my daily driver, it's my only car. If anything major goes wrong depending on what part of the country you're in you'll have different amounts of knowledgeable shops in the area. Luck for me I'm in L.A. Signal Auto is about 30 min away, Phase 2 is about 20 min away, Jspec is about 30 min away, not to mention various smaller shops.

More or less mechanics is mechanics. Any competent mechanic can diagnoise a common problem with any motor if they know what they are doing. With the motors you would swap into a 240 of any year, the only one that will give you any real downtime is if you swapped in the RB series motors mainly because its not a popular swap(as of yet)and parts are more scarce than the typical SR swap. No dealership that I know of will even touch a JDM swapped 240, so thats out of the question, but finding someone who can help with any problems shouldnt be too difficult.

my swap

i have a 91 240sx hb with a blacktop sr20det and so far i havent had any major problems... well except my starter and i just took it to a starter rebuild shop and they rebuilt it.. and for parts wise like plugs, oil filters belts and so on you can go to any auto parts stores many parts are interchangeable from different parts and parts like a water pump and stuff like that you will have to order but there are so many websites that carry oem sr20det parts so dont worry about that at the most you will have to wait for the part a week and it should only take you a day to put it in.. and like brakes and clutch and stuff like that you can take it to any mechanic it is the same stuff when you take it to a mechanic for the clutch buy it you self and then take it up there it really isnt that hard and honestly if you are going to even do the swap yourself then make sure you put new plugs, belts, oil filter motor mounts and etc. before you put it in that way if anything fail you can cross off the part that you know are good...... and if you have any questions let me know....

kable, you live in jersey right? just get your parts from heavy throttle, jeff is like a day away shipped. or you can get parts from wayne at phase2 and have em ship it quicker. i get a lot of stuff from wayne and him and howard will ship to me next day if i need it. he has so many stock parts in stock. or you could just build it right by replacing certain parts that could go bad before you drop the engine in. i replaced just about everything with new parts before i dropped mine in. its piece of mind.
