nice write up.

im going with the sr20det. . . mostly because you cant beat the price and the parts are easy to get ahold of.

dam, I was counting on that to have enuf HP for learning to drift with just a drift kit, exhaust and intake.
so do you think the RB20 is the best way to go in terms of power and price?
or shud I do the common thing and get a S13 SR20?
the RB is 1200$ and the sr is 1650 red.

drifing isnt about power.... you can drift just fine on a stock KA trust me i know i drift fine with my stock KA and 285/35 r18 michelins... only thing i can tell you is practice first, suspension and lsd, more practice then last power and some more practice

thanks, but I would still eventually swap the engine. there's not many strong running KA24's

what do you think is a better swap?
RB20 (1200$) or S13 red SR20 (1650$)
thats the price on jdmracingmotors.com

the RB is heavier and sits more forward then a SR so yes you get a bit more torque but the weight distrabution is better on a SR plus SR20det parts are easy to find in the US and no to mention the RB is cramped in the engine bay and last but not least Rb would cost you more because you need custom mounts and a drive shaft a SR is pure drop in

this isn't true..i have seen MANY strong KA's..all it takes is the right parts and a rebuild maybe some boost..don't sleep on the KA-Turbo.. KA's can be beasts

You did a really good job explaining it all. It's made me do a bit more research before buying just any engine. Had thoughts about boosting a KA24de but realize now it's just not worth it.

when it comes down to it... turbo KA comes down to someone who has the skill to build and maintain and or the drive to learn it.. not everyone has the drive..... the same reason why in America there are so many Fat people..

few things not quite right

1. with McKinney motorsports mounts or the O/E r32 cross member, which is a direct bolt up, the engine sits in fine

2. weight distribution is not disrupted much when placed properly.. i have been in and driven RB powered 240s

3. the RB20 drops in and installs just like a sr20 and even simpler in some cases. you can use stock drive shaft

4. nothing at all wrong with the rb20 solid motor and if you are going to be really racing. going with the RB20 would be good.......easy to replace/rebuild..parts are available web wide now. and the motor is just proven.

5. Rb20 motor set/clip on average 1300-1500 dollars ( will come with cross member) if not add mount kit ( more than one option)

$375.00 ( polyurethanes)

RB20 BASIC MOUNT KIT
$299.99 ( rubber mounts )

these swap choices should be made with realistic goals in mind. don't get stuck behind an 8 ball
