CA18DET SWAP questions??

I have been deciding between a rb20det, ka24(d)Et, or a ca18det. I have quite a few ?`s regarding the swap into a 1990 240sx.

-Would a nx1800 clutch bolt right up, if not what kind would?
-What kind of gas mileage should I be expecting?
-How much HP potential does this engine have?
-What is involved with the swap from a front clip, is there alot of wiring involved and if so is it pretty strait foreward?
-What kind of turbo does it use?
-If this uses a t25 which im guessing, could any dsm turbo upgrade bolt up to this engine like it would on a DSM?
-What kind of aftermarket parts can be interchangable with the sr20det(i.e hot pipes, cold pipes, down pipes and turbo`s etc)
-What kind of numbers does this engine put out stock like 1/4 mile and DYNO #`s?
-How much boost can it handle with simple mods like intake and exhaust?

thats all I can think of for now

Ryan

You can get a clutch for a ca18det without to much work. I am sure exedy has one and Daikin I think does also.
-You can get a good amount of power out of the engine. I know someone that has like 350hp on stock internals and a metal gasket i think. Also another one that is being completely rebuilt.
- It does have a t25, and DSM t25s should be no problem. If you already have one worked on.
- Other then the turbos I don't think you can exchange any sr20det parts and the trim sizes on the turbo is a little bigger stock son the sr.
- its about 170-180hp and i think 160 torque, but it revs to like 8500. thats why im gonna get it.

no the nx is FWD but a ka clutch works also spec makes a clutch kit for it

-What kind of gas mileage should I be expecting?
if you are looking for preformance why are you worying about gas mileage

-How much HP potential does this engine have?
just as much as the SR, the ca is overall a better motor the head design is far better

-What is involved with the swap from a front clip, is there alot of wiring involved and if so is it pretty strait foreward?
its the same as the SR

-What kind of turbo does it use?
-If this uses a t25 which im guessing, could any dsm turbo upgrade bolt up to this engine like it would on a DSM?
yes its a t25 like an sr, a t28 from an s15 is great or a garret
gt25r or big t28, to get above 330hp you need a new manifold, the stock CA one sucks

-What kind of aftermarket parts can be interchangable with the sr20det(i.e hot pipes, cold pipes, down pipes and turbo`s etc)
Most parts that you mentions are interchangeable with little or no work. the SR downpipe can be used with a SR o2 exstension

-What kind of numbers does this engine put out stock like 1/4 mile and DYNO #`s?
it puts out 180ish stock in good running condition. i dotn know about 1/4 times but its low 15s with a bad driver

-How much boost can it handle with simple mods like intake and exhaust?
the motor is capable over 20psi on stock internals esily, however the stock turbo is trash and cant put out much more than 14psi for very long

Doing a Turbo kit can be a cheaper way to go, but alot of times they won't idle right or can have little problems that make the car annoying, like bad idle or flat spots, etc. To do it right you need a standalone or good aftermarket piggy back system and by that time you're better off doing a swap instead as far as cost is concerned. One of our customers is putting down 250WHP on his CA18DET on 12 PSI. Thought it was decent for a 1.8 Liter. The CA is actually the best of the Nissan turbo engines over the SR and KA, was well designed for the Turbo use.

you can use a nx1800 clutch, but you have to use the flywheel also. downside is that it is smaller in diameter, upside, its a lot lighter. the rwd ca flywheel weighs about 8000 pounds

i would stick with the poper rwd flywheel so you dont shater it on the 8000rpm drops that ca drivers are known for
