broken bolt

alright.. i was installing my head and i was torquing down the bolts for the cam clamp (??) to 2 Nm and on 9 and 10 (first cam clamp on the left (looking at it from the front)) the bolts snapped. My CRAFTSMAN torque wrench didnt click when it was there! i thought it did on the first one, but when it did it to the second one, i took a second look and they are snapped right at the top of the opening on the head.

What can i do to get it out? thanks. :wtf:

i guess i can try EasyOut, but the bolt is pretty small!

Go to sears, buy this:

http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...id=00952152000

follow the directions on the package, take your time, dont rush.

Use a variable speed drill in reverse on slow with ALOT of cutting oil and clean the bit VERY frequently.

You will thank me later. I got 2 exhaust mani bolts out of an RB25 head first try in 10 mins each without a single damaged thread.

What is your torque wrench set for, is it a 120 o rhigher ft lb torque wrench? They make lower level torque wrenches for lower torque bolts. The higher torque wrenches arent as accurate down low.

I had to do the same thing on 2 exhaust studs on my RB20. I used a carbide cutter on a dremmel and hollowed them out and then used a drill extractor. DONT USE CHEAP DRILL EXTRACTORS!!!! I had to cut one of those out cause I just used the first one I could find in the drawer, and even the cheap ones are hard as hell, so it wastes alot of time cutting through them. Even with carbide its not gonna be a 5 minute job, and a regular drill bit, forget it. Any kind of hardened bolt on a motor will just laugh at a regular drill bit.

These things from Sears rock the house, I have used many different types of extractors & I LOVE these babies.

Seems to be a problem with the Rb's, I had to remove 3 myself from my engine. They looked loose and when I went to torque them down they just broke off. They looked crystalized like the metal was too high grade. I got some nice gummy grade 5 studs and haven't had any problems since.
