Big legal problem

hey guys. i live in southern cali and i need a smog before i can get my new tags. i need to get a smog ref inspection. i have a red top sr20det with everything stock except for the fmic, intake, and 3" exhaust with cat. i am super scared that my car will not be able to pass inspection. has anyone had to deal with this? what will most likely be wrong with the emission stuff on the sr. can any one help please!!!!!!!!!!

It's never going to pass inspection in CA, you're gonna have to bite the bullet. It doesn't have EGR equipment and that's a big no no in california

they wont pass you once they see your motor, you will be lucky if they even let you go, ive heard they send illigal cars to the crusher in cali (SR20DET is not DOT approved or legal)

egr or not, that engine is not street legal. i don't think they can keep your car if you're not doing anything illegal, although driving it with a modified engine is illegal it's a catch 22 here.
but anyways don't plan on getting your tabs anytime some with that engine in the car.

EDIT
actually when i lived in cali i knew of a shop that would pass just about any car. it couldn't be blowing smoke out the exhaust like crazy or anything like that. but for an additional fee they would pass you. and guess where that shop was, that's right right across the street from the dmv.

-Just drive around to some shops and ask them how much they want to "pass" your car. Don't park near the shop tho, or a goody-two-shoes might call your tag in.

no worries. i think i have it figured out. but the last last last last resort i have is to sell the car and start new, but i don't want to cuz i waited years to finally get this thing running. but my reg does not require ref inspection. i think i am just psyching my self out about it. i just wonder why bigger engines can be sold here, and they won't pass something small like an sr. hahhaha.

as stated in another thread, "don't buy someone else's project!!!!!!" =T

the only way I could think of passing... is either keepin ur old KA/another harness and all the stock parts and spend two days switchin it back out or spending money to switch it all out with KA motor and new stuff to make it work. Thank god we dont have there here in oklahoma...i'd be screwed

option one move to the east coast where we dont have smog, or im originally from california, ive spend roughly 8 months a year out there and 4 months in maryland, but the easiest way ive found to get through smog was to bribe someone, most shops if you give the guy doing the test 20 bucks hell pass you thats all i do when im out there or here in md , ive never done emissions or smog on any of my cars

Well, got my car tested and the only things wrong with it is the hc were a little high but the NOx was crazy off the scale. like 5 times above normal. my guy just said that the timing needs to be fixed. would fixing the timing help with the running rich problem? i also heard that you don't want to have a bov that empties into the atmosphere. i have a sard that does just that. i heard that the comp doesn't compensate for the missing air. so if u have this kind of bov, the engine tends to run rich. and i think the extra hc is why i am backfiring a little.
