AWD 240sx RBxxDET(T) Swap!
#31
Well I have:
-89' Coupe
-RB20DET AWD Engine/Trans/ECU/Harness, etc
-89' GTR32 Front subframe
-89' GTR32 4-pot Front Brakes/hubs
-89' GTR32 Suspension links, and ball-joints <-Crazy hard to find!
-Clutch pedal for the manual swap
I still need 5X114.5 16" wheels to clear the Brakes, and 5-lug rear setup as well.
I hope to start ripping all of the crap out of the coupe this weekend.
Having another car in my space has held me up.
Completion time? It will be RWD in a few weeks.
AWD I'll take my time on developing a nice controller.
Let me start working on it, and some real progress will happen!

Well make sure you take lots of pics for us. Are you planning on any mods for the engine? The reason I ask is that I am not yet 100% on what swap I will be doing and I was interested in what you will be doing (if anything) to the motor and where you are sourcing the parts from.

I am focusing on the reliability mods. Oil pump/cooler, and a ROM tune for now.
Being an EX Mitsubishi owner, I have really learn to appreciate reliability.

Well time to update.
As most people know, the RB turbos are made of ceramic turbine wheels that are epoxied on the shaft.
Well, after 18 years of 100,000+rpm operation the wheels tend to fly off.
So without changing manifolds and wastegates, and fuel injectors, etc, here's the setup I will be using.
The EVOIII 16G Turbo is a killer 2.0 liter turbo that:
-Spools fully (20psi) by 3000rpm on a 2.0
-Will pull to 7500-8000 rpm on the right setup
-Is cheap as hell! ($560 brand new)
-Internally gated (No external setup required)
-Kicks a T3 Super 60's ***!
-Will be perfect on the RB20DET
A FMIC will be added, as well as a new Walbro 255lph, and an Aeromotive AFPR.
But that's about it...

I plan to have a Daily driver, with an RB and AWD.
I live in the Northeast so just doing the RWD swap is not feasible, unless I get another car for winter. = More $
This was nearly impossible to achieve with a Mitsubishi, without dumping my 401k into it.
From what I can see throughout this build is that Nissan parts are so much more rugged then Mitsubishi's. So that makes me happy.
Getting back on the swap today, I at least want the Engine sitting in the bay.

Update:
Well, well, well. Will you look at that.
Small modifications required for installation of the GTR front Confirmed.
Just as I thought.
This is huge, really huge. The USDM Steering rack slips right in, with a few tweaks to the brackets.
Factory references for the subframe bolts ensures straight geometry.
I am psyched. And All in a storage space with hand tools, until I get the generator to drill/cut/weld stuff.
