Question hot tranny

check this out, tell me what you think

my car didnt run forever. i gutted it out(85%). fixed it now it runs

since there is now no carpet, when i drive the "hump" (for lack of a better term) around the tranny gets pretty hot. i don't know if its always 'posed to be like this cus i never drove the car while it was carpeted.
seriously hot. feels like i got the heat floor vent on full blast.
is this normal or should i be troubleshooting? if i knew where the manual transmission fluid was i'd check. the resavors under the hood are all full.

My interior is not stripped and I noticed that the armrest area does get hot when I have driven the car for a long period of time.

I don't think you are suffering from anything but some heat created by friction.

Looking at the view of the 240 from the bottom it seems that the connection from the tranny to the driveshaft is right in the same area as the armrest. That could be the source of your heat.

i realize this but, put your hand on the "hump" by my hand brake. the tranny takes up that space not the cat. the cat is a little further back. it gets HOT though.
i wouldn't of asked if it didn't seem abnormal. and this seems abnormal. then again this is my first 240.

please don't insult me

this is normal on most rwd/awd cars...
its just that our tranny is right up in there..
so u will feel it more..
if that concerns u put a heat shield/..

Another reason is that the exhaust rund under those parts of the car so its bound to get hot. I once read in an article that if you see smoke into the car on our 240's its usually an exhaust leak that you have under the shifter. It seems that the exhuast is right next to the shifter and that would explain why it gets so hot.

And what about that pipe that you put water in and the exhaust comes out the top?
