trunk rattle
hey guys .. i just got a 1989 240sx fastback.
I'm thinking about putting 2 10"s under the hatch. I was wondering before i spend money on it, do these cars rattle at all?
There's nothing i hate worse than a kid driving down the road and his car sounds like he's holding a microphone up to someone sh*tting in a coffee can.
I want to know if the rattle is common among these cars. thanks in advance.

YES 240 trunks are known to rattle. MOst times when you hear trunk rattle, it's really just the license plate. Fabricate a rubber bushing for the screws and screw it tight. But 240 trunk do rattle over time.

these trunks and hatchbacks rattle like ails in a metal bucket... even worse on hatchbacks that have rust under the foam rear spoiler... dyna mat has been known to cure some of this but never all of it... the only way i have ever found that works (costs grips) is to take the trunk or hatch to a body shop and have them remove the skin from it... then install dynamat on the outter surface covering the whole skin... take it back to the body shop and have them put it back together and repaint it... that will cure about 90% of the trunk rattles... things like the gas tank and the exhaust system and the fuel filler door are still going to rattle some but with time and work you can remove them so a degree as well...
