nice job and a good idea but why would you go though all that work and still have you speakers on the inside of the door skin and also coaxl spleakers are designed for a free air aplication unless you have all the mechanical specs for them and make a pod for the right air space you can acutaly do more harm to a speaker than good if you dont do it right. as for the inside the door skin thing all the bass will just roll of into the door the easyer way of doing it would have beeen to make a new plate for the outer speaker grill and mount them out there you would have probably gotten more out of the speakers by doing that

To anyone, If you have done this do you have to make that back speaker "tray" is it really just for the rain, and how bad would it be without doing this?

um.. no i didnt make a piece to keep it from rain, but i havent had any problems SO FAR. I live in louisiana and we have had rain like everyday for like 2 weeks, and no signs of rain water damaging the speakers. If i had experience in fiberglass, I'd make a sealed enclosure for the speakers. It keeps door rattling down and cleans up the sound a bit. I would recommend using alpine type-s or type-r speakers. I have nothing but good things to say about mine.

i should have said this before, but unless youre running an amp to the speakers, type-s's and type-r's will sound almost the same. The type-r's sound better with an amp than with just HU power.
